French, Spanish and German

 

The course consists of the completion of four units: Listening (20%), Reading (20%), Speaking (30%), and Writing (30%) and the study of four topic areas: Work and Education, Leisure, Home and Environment and Young People's Life Styles and Healthy Living. Two tiers are available: Foundation and Higher Tier, which may be mixed and matched. The exam board is AQA.

 

The listening and reading units are completed at the end of the academic year in May / June. The speaking and writing are assessed by the means of four controlled tasks. Preparation will be undertaken in class and at home and the assessments will be completed at different stages during the academic year during lesson time. Four tasks will be submitted to AQA in May: two spoken and two written. The tasks are differentiated by outcome so there are no entry tiers. The students will be assessed on their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, as well as their fluency and accuracy and their ability to convey information clearly, express and explain ideas and points of view.
